You Don’t Need Another Generic Leadership Coach.

You need someone who speaks engineering, understands your pressure, and can help you build a leadership bench that doesn’t route every decision through you. That’s what I do.

I’m Steve Doherty, an engineering leadership advisor and coach, and a former senior engineering leader. I’ve led teams, built products, and sat in the same tense executive meetings you’re in now. I’ve seen what happens when engineering grows faster than leadership:

Days dominated by escalations:

  • Inbox and Slack driving the schedule
  • No protected time for strategy
  • Strong talent burning out or leaving

My work reverses that pattern. We reduce escalations, clarify decision ownership, and install operating rhythms that keep execution moving without you as the system. Most clients regain ~10 hours per week and get back to real strategic work.

A serious accident years ago changed how I see time, pressure, and work. It forced me to slow down and I gained clarity. Much of what felt “hard” wasn’t important. It was lack of clarity and inertia.

Since then, I’ve focused on simplifying life and simplifying work the same way: cut noise, sharpen priorities, and build systems that make execution lighter.

When the work becomes clearer, everything improves: delivery, focus, energy, and the life you get to have outside the job.

Time To Lead | CTO Advisory & Coaching exists to make that reality.

10 hrs/week

Time regained

10 hours per week returned to strategic work
after installing decision ownership and operating rhythms.

Less escalation

Not fewer decisions

Clients reduce routine approvals routed to them, freeing capacity for the decisions only they can make.
